Strengths Class
Students, by identifying and developing their Themes of Talent into academic strengths, will experience an increase in Hope, Learning Engagement and Academic Self-Efficacy. These together, then, will result in confidence in their ability to graduate from high school with post-seconary planning.
Strengths Class is typically 8 through 12 sessions in which the students work through three phases
Phase I: Strengths Identification and Affirmation
Phase II: Strengths and Academics
Phase III: Strengths and Career Exploration
Online assessments utilized: StrengthsQuest, VIA Survey of Character Strengths, and O*Net Career Exploration
Hope Class
Hope Class is an eight week class designed to equip students to identify and develop their strengths, start thinking about their future, set goals and how to use their skills and abilities to achieve these goals.
More specifically, Building Hope will help students 1) understand goals and what it takes to achieve them; 2) understand the relationship between values, goals and motivation; 3) identify and develop strengths and abilities that are essential to goal attainment; and 4) learn how to both anticipate and overcome barriers to their goals.
Professional Development for Educators
Teachers participate in an Educator Workshop as well as ongoing consultation so that they will teach their students from the strengths-based perspective as well as encourage their students to utilize and engage their strengths in their learning.
Parental Engagement
The Strengths Team works with the school to develop a program to increase parental enagement in their child's learning and education.
Mentor Training
The Strengths Team trains mentors in the schools, agencies and community organizations.
Individual Counseling with Educational Focus
Individual counseling is available with licensed counselors for those youth who would benefit from intensive and focused intervention in the area of their learning and education.
